Use Fans and Ventilation Strategies to Cool Your Home
- Ceiling fans are a great companion to an air
conditioning system. In fact, you can raise the thermostat setting by
about 5°F with a ceiling fan circulating and feel no reduction in
comfort.
- Remember to turn off ceiling fans when you
leave the room. Fans cool people, not rooms, by creating a wind chill
effect. Also, when showering, be sure to use the bathroom fan to remove
the heat and humidity and make sure the fans are vented to the outside.
Keep Your Cooling System Running Efficiently
- If you have a room air-conditioner, avoid placing lamps or TVs
near the thermostat; it senses heat from the appliances, and causes the
A/C to run longer than necessary.
- Vacuum vents regularly to remove dust and make sure nothing is blocking airflow.
- Schedule regular maintenance for your cooling equipment.
